Violence erupted during anti-government protests in Hong Kong yesterday as protesters and riot police exchanged Molotov cocktails and tear gas, after a week of relative calm. Amid concerns that the authorities could potentially use technology to identify them, protesters were even seen using an electric saw to fell a “smart” lamp-post equipped with surveillance cameras, before vandalising it.
