Known for science-fiction films such as The Fifth Element (1997) and the Resident Evil franchise (2002 to 2016), actress Milla Jovovich, 43, is in cinemas now playing the sorceress Nimue (above) in the comic-book fantasy Hellboy. Here are five things you may not know about the star.

The daughter of a Serbian doctor and a Russian actress, Jovovich was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1975, when it was still part of the Soviet Union, and speaks fluent Russian and Serbian.
